The Mind of Christ Part 2

 The mind of Christ

Part 2

”Tongues”

Disclaimer: This one is going to be controversial, arguments are not going to be tolerated. If you want to discuss this topic at length private message me.

Let me say that there are many believers who are all in different stages of their walk with Christ. Some reap 30, some 60, and some 100 fold. I’m confident that those who are not filled with the Holy Spirit have had true experiences with God and many of those believers will be in the kingdom. The purpose of writing this is to bless you not create division.

In the book of Acts, people who were filled with the Holy Spirit immediately afterward spoke in tongues (Acts 2:4; 10:44-46; 19:6). It should be the desire of every believer to have an experience like the early believers in the Bible. An authentic book of Acts experience.

Is tongues human language? So, a lot of people want to say that because the crowds in Jerusalem heard the Apostles speak in their own language that means that tongues are known human languages. Another more likely explanation is that God gave the people the ability of interpretation to hear in their own language. Since one man can only speak one language at a time, but everyone heard that one man in their own language. Paul does say there are tongues of men and angels and I not only believe the gift of tongues can be a known language I have personally seen this to be true in my own life, and in the lives of others. However, more often then not no one understands, and the person speaking in tongues is speaking mysteries

1 Corinthians 14:2

“For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.”

Some will say that tongues are no longer for today. They quote 1 Corinthians 13 which says

“whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.”

So is prophecy over? Is knowledge gone? Not hardly. This verse is simply describing the lasting continuation of love over everything else. And I pray that it would be in love that I communicate this message, and in love that you will receive it.

But doesn’t there need to be an interpreter? Only in the context of delivering a message to the church, if you don’t have an interpreter than you should talk to YOURSELF and to God (1 Cor. 14:28) Because when you are praying in the Spirit the Spirit is speaking to you, and through you, making intercession for you to God.

It’s interesting how Paul equates speaking in tongues with praying and singing in the Spirit. Because, he says, “When I pray in tongues, my spirit prays but my understanding is unfruitful (1 Corinthians 14:14).

Paul therefore says that he will pray in the spirit AND he will pray with understanding. He will sing in the Spirit AND he will sing with understanding. (1 Corinthians 14:15)

The fact that the ”spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets” (1 Corinthians 14:32) and that you can clearly control the gift if there is not an interpreter present tells me that the infilling of the Holy Spirit is not as hard as most Pentecostals make it out to be. You don’t have to toil on the altar for hours, you don’t need a hundred people to lay hands on you. You just need to surrender to the mind of Christ that is within you.

“But what if it’s just me faking it?” I think everyone who has ever spoken in tongues has felt this, and obviously a lot of denominations who don’t speak in tongues openly criticize those who do as “fake.”

If your doing it out of fear, pressure, or pride then yeah it’s fake. But if you are doing it because you believe that you have the mind of Christ and that mind of Christ is using your brain to tell your mouth to move and make sounds then it is not fake. It is true faith and surrender.

This could free you if you really understood it. Instead of waiting on God to just make you do something, why not understand that the voice in your head telling you to move your mouth and speak in tongues IS the mind of Christ within you? And that your obedience to that will fill you with his spirit and unlock every other gift?

Tongues is the least of all gifts, but it is the gateway to all the rest. When you truly submit your mind and mouth to God and let him speak through you then you will find a whole world of possibilities open up for you.

You can argue and debate all of this all day long, or you can listen to the voice compelling you to surrender completely to the Holy Spirit.

You’ve got to learn that the voice in your head compelling you to have a book of Acts experience IS Christ in you, the hope of glory.
